Connecting Third-Party VoIP Phones
You can use compatible SIP phones from other manufacturers with your BusinessVoIP service. These require manual configuration.
Compatibility
- • Any SIP-compatible phone can be used (Yealink, Polycom, Cisco, Grandstream, etc.)
- • Phone must be released from any previous VoIP provider
- • Firmware must be up-to-date for security and compatibility
- • Register phone in portal before configuration
Registering in Portal
- Go to VoIP Management → Phone Hardware → Add Phone
- Select "Customer Owned" phone type
- Enter manufacturer, model, and serial number
- Confirm phone has been released from third-party VoIP service
- Assign to user extension
- Save - configuration credentials will be displayed
SIP Configuration Settings
- • SIP Server: sip.businessvoip.uk (provided in portal after registration)
- • SIP Username: Your extension number@yourdomain
- • SIP Password: Unique password generated in portal
- • SIP Port: 5060 (UDP/TCP) or 5061 (TLS for encrypted transport)
- • Registration Expiry: 300 seconds (5 minutes)
- • Codec Priority: G.722 (HD), G.711u, G.711a, G.729 (if licensed)
- • DTMF: RFC2833
Troubleshooting Registration
- • Verify credentials exactly match portal (username and password)
- • Check network firewall allows outbound SIP and RTP traffic
- • Ensure phone has internet connectivity (ping google.com)
- • Disable SIP ALG on your router (often causes registration failures)
- • Check phone status in portal - shows online when registered successfully
⚠️ Important: Customer-owned phones must be confirmed as released from previous VoIP providers. Phones still provisioned to other services will not register.
